"One test of the correctness of
educational procedure is the happiness of the child.” - Maria Montessori
Prairie Creek is
a small turn-of-the-century schoolhouse. We still gather together every
week to sing and celebrate. Children from different classes work
together often in art studios, student council, and community projects
like our annual May Day celebration. Real relationships grow from these
experiences, and it is common to see a fifth grader helping a
kindergartener zip up for recess.
individual attention
Our teachers know their students as individuals. They tailor
projects to students’ interests and learning styles. Parents, students,
and teachers meet frequently as a team to set goals and assess progress.
social curriculum
At Prairie Creek, we have a formal social curriculum. Students learn
how to work and play together respectfully. Children develop tools to
help them solve problems on the playground and in the classroom. The
school community does not tolerate bullying or teasing.
family involvement
Families, too, belong at Prairie Creek. Their commitment to the Prairie
Creek philosophy and participation in school life is essential. Parents
are involved in every part of the school from the classrooms, to the
lunch program, to Board membership.
Every member of the Prairie Creek community – parent, teacher, and
child – feels a part of the learning experience.
