OCTOBER NEWSLETTER

Thanks to all who attended the community council meeting and the room representative training meeting earlier this month.   I am thrilled to have so many terrific volunteers taking a leadership role.  One of the goals for the community council this year is to spread the work across many hands and to disseminate CC information in a multitude of ways.  Too many times, we call on the same individuals because they are familiar to us.   Prairie Creek is a community school, and it takes the entire community to pull off our many great events.  Room reps and coordinator positions have been filled.  Please make their job easier by responding to phone calls or emails asking for help.  Volunteer opportunities will also be posted in several locations including: the website, www.prairiecreek.org, the CC monthly newsletter, the sign in table at school, and emails from room reps.

Classroom Volunteer Workshop
You are invited to an informative training session on the role of the classroom volunteer at PCCS.  Led by Michelle Martin you will learn practical tips as well as important theory to equip you in being an effective classroom volunteer. Meet in the school library at 8:20am on Wednesday, November 8.  Refreshments and social time to follow.

Vision /Hearing Screening and Picture Day
Many thanks to Annie Paschall-Zimbal, Nicole Krenzel, Tammy, Faith and Ryan Pritchard, Renee Nordby, and Michele Reese for assisting Brenda Hadro in screening our children.  Vision and hearing screening is an important event made possible each year by our volunteer effort.  Thanks also to those who offered their time for re-screening, Dena Stulken, and Janet Watchman.  Additionally, a big thanks to those who helped comb hair and encourage smiles on picture day.  We appreciate your support Kim Loecher, Shana Leipnitz, Sarah Swenson, and Amy Hollerung.

Conferences
Thank you to the Sequoias for catering the goal setting conferences.  The teachers are at school for up to 12 hours each day during conferences, and a good meal is much appreciated.  Thank you to Alisa Leonard, Linda Gallagher, Tracy Goodwin, Shana Hodol, Kim Loecher, Elisabeth Hurlbert, and Nancy Gregerson for their generation donations of a main course, salad, dessert, bread and drinks.   The Aspens are scheduled for winter conferences on January 15 and 22.   The Birches will cater spring conferences on May 7 and May 14.

Volunteer Opportunities
We need your help.  Please consider volunteering for one of the following:
Plant Sale Committee  (2-3 people)
Job description includes working closely with Mark Leiptniz to create a brochure of plant offerings.  Word processing and formatting skills a plus.  Other jobs on the committee include:  publicizing the event to the Northfield, Castle Rock and PCCS communities and assisting Shana Leiptniz in day of sale preparation and volunteer coordinating.   Due to the increased scope of the plant sale this year and the Leiptnitz's greenhouse schedule, the bulk of work for this event will be done in November and December. Depending on the role you take on, this job will require 10-40 hours of work .
Enrichment Class Coordinator (1person)

Job description includes finding 10-12 adults to lead a multi-age class of PCCS students in an area of personal interest for one hour the first three Monday's of March. This job will require about 10 hours of work.
Please contact Kelly Scheuerman at 651-204-7049 or email me at kellysche@msn.com if you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions.
